#residency

you are food

27 June - 14 July 2016 / Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki / LABattoir - Old Municipal Slaughterhouse / public spaces around the city

about the project

The artist will use food culture / habits / traditions, as a means to a) activate and map public spaces to encourage meaningful communication and exchange between citizens from different backgrounds (age groups, ethnicities, financial capacities); b) raise awareness on current affairs in food production and circulation and c) propose alternative practices. The project will create a living archive of oral and visual representations of food culture in relationship to local identity and heritage. Lynn will work with a small group of people that will engage a mobile food and media laboratory. The mobile food lab will be rolled through the city and be used to create public ethnographic encounters that will collect cross-generation food stories. The mobile food lab will also be a broadcast station, a platform for a 'food TV show' that will engage cooking performances and competitions. The mobile food lab will also be incorporated into Eric Ellingsen's project during the overlapping residencies, and will be inherited by the Radical Imagination Community to be used for their 'school'.

about the artist

Lynn Peemoeller is a food systems planner. As a consultant practitioner she blends expertise in natural sciences, urban planning, policy, agriculture, food, culture, nutrition, activism and the arts to study and work on a wide range of projects that address the human interaction with the complex cycle of food from the farm to the fork to the garbage dump, examining both the negative and positive state of humanity and development shaped by food. While Lynn lived in Berlin, Germany (2009-2014) her practice grew to develop and curate food experiments as agency to develop a dialogue about the past, present and future role of food in context to urban systems. Recent work has been featured in collaboration with the Good Food Festivals, the Sullivan Gallery at the Art Institute Chicago, Berlin Food Art Week 2015, Entretempo Food Art Gallery, Haus der Kulturen Der Welt, BMW Guggenheim Lab, Studio Olafur Eliasson, Institut für Raumexperimente, the Global Soil Forum, The Science Lab Dublin, and 48 Hours Neukolln Berlin.
